双林寺
东方彩塑艺术宝库
双林寺座落于平遥古城西南6公里的桥头村，“汉文帝为代王都于此”，故原名“中都寺”，北宋更名为“双林寺”，重修于北齐武平二年（571年）。全国重点文物保护单位，世界文化遗产“一城两寺”的重要组成部分。
双林寺，一座汉化佛寺，偶像题材已渗透了佛教的不同宗派，彩塑人物的面相和装束，鲜有古印度的风情，而殿堂的配置更深具中国特色。
寺内唐槐、宋碑、明钟，均属稀世珍宝；2052尊彩塑形态各异，极俱神韵。796平方米古代壁画异彩纷呈，飘逸俊美。正如美国学者巴克莱·琼斯面对双林寺的感叹———“真正的、独一无二的珍宝”。
SHUANGLIN TEMPLE
ORIENTAL PAINTED SCULPTURE TREASURE-HOUSE
Shuanglin Temple, originally named Zhongdu Temple, is located in Qiaotou village, six kilometers away from the Ancient City of Pingyao. The Buddhist temple with the feathers of the Han nationality was rebuilt in 571. The figures of 2052 sculptures made of painted clay over wooden frameworks in the temple belong to different schools of Buddhism and have the Chinese appearances and costumes and demonstrate the artistic styles of painted sculptures of the Tang, Song, Jin, Yuan and Ming Dynasties, as are hardly recognized as the ancient Hindus. The ancient 796-square-metre frescoes are colorful, elegant and pretty in different shapes. Besides, the tree planted during the Tang dynasty, the Song dynasty stone tablets, the Ming Dynasty bell are all rare treasures in the world. Just as Barkley Jones, the American scholar and UN Centre for Human Settlements expert sang praise of the Shuanglin Temple ‘A real, unique treasure.’
